Fun facts: The sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is an annual plant native to the Americas. Its name is derived from the flower’s shape and image, which is often used to depict the sun. The plant has a hairy stem, and large circular heads of flowers.

In this workshop, the lavish ribbon fringe petals that shape the flower are stitched by hand to a crinoline foundation. Molded and hand-cut silk and rayon velvet leaves on wire stems, a realistic hand-crafted flower center surrounded by stamens and a flocked stem all combine to make a unique sunflower pin or millinery decoration.
